Everything You Wanted to Know About NASA's Corvette Cup Racing Series

NASA Corvette Cup is an affordable and competitive racing series, primarily focused on road racing, and shall function as an advertising and marketing tool for the series sponsors, the independent sponsors of each team, as well as the official sanctioning body of the series.

Corvette Cup was designed to deliver the highest levels of performance available within the parameters of affordable spec-class racing. The class is sure to offer close, competitive racing on a level playing field of fast and powerful V8-powered sports cars.

Nearly all C5 and C6 Corvette chassis 1997 – 2013. No convertibles. The C6 Z06 and Grand Sport are not permitted.

Engines are to remain stock, with a maximum at-the-wheels horsepower limit for each Corvette Cup engine.

 

Early cars can be lighter than the later, more powerful cars. Minimum weights range from 2,900 lbs. to 3,300 lbs. with driver.

Maximum 93 octane pump gas, no need for race gas.

$10,000 to $30,000 depending on mileage and condition.

$45,000 to $60,000 depending on donor price.

  • ATI Super Damper harmonic balancers or 10 percent underdrive harmonic balancers are permitted.
  • PCV venting using “catch can” can be used either venting to atmosphere or back into the intake manifold at the existing factory inlet.
  • Oil cooler, oil filter, remote filter mount, lines and adapters are unrestricted.
  • Any radiator may be used, provided that it mounts in the stock location, without any modification of any part of the stock mounting location.
  • Accusump Oil Accumulator system is permitted.
  • Replacement of OEM exhaust system downstream of factory exhaust manifold is permitted and unrestricted, providing it exits the rear of the vehicle (at or beyond rear bumper).

  • Highest performance per dollar of any spec racing class in amateur motorsports.

  • There are plentiful donors, spare parts and aftermarket support for C5 and C6 Corvettes.

  • Good factory aerodynamics, ample torque, excellent suspension geometry, a low center of gravity, near 50/50 weight balance, and a rear transaxle.

  • Corvette Cup was devised to deliver parity and reliability. Its aim is good, close racing in robust cars.

As spec classes go, this isn’t the cheapest route, but Corvette Cup was not designed to be a low-cost spec class.

  • Factory ECU must be retained. Recalibration or “reflashing” of factory ECU is not permitted.
  • Transmission cooler may be added. Size and location are unrestricted.
  • Differential cooler may be added. Size and location are unrestricted.
  • Driveshaft coupler bushings are unrestricted provided factory prop shaft, driveshaft and torque tube are retained.
  • GM or aftermarket single-mass flywheels weighing no less than 18.5 lbs. is permitted.
  • Front and rear camber is unrestricted provided it is within the limits of adjustment using the stock OEM arms only. No notching is permitted.
  • Suspension bushings may be replaced with readily available aftermarket parts. Polyurethane, Delrin, or spherical bearings are permitted.

Corvette Cup is an affordable road racing series designed for Chevrolet Corvette C5 and C6 models, sanctioned by the National Auto Sport Association.

Eligible models include:

  • C5, base and Z06 trims with LS1 or LS6 engines.
  • C6, base trims with LS2 or LS3 engines.

 

Convertible models, C6 Z06 and Grand Sport models with aluminum chassis are not eligible.

Yes, each model and engine type has specific weight and horsepower limits. For example:

LS, C5: 2,900 lbs., 325 HP

LS3, C6: 3,450 lbs., 420 HP

The factory exhaust manifold must match the engine year, but downstream components can be replaced, provided they exit at or beyond the rear bumper.

Wilwood front brake kits are allowed, and brake pads are unrestricted. A manual brake bias valve may be used only if the ABS is disabled.
